I deleted the URL addresses that you had on the page. They were for Mrs. Yingling's page and should not have been on your page. You can now go to the prompts page and copy and paste assignment #3 onto your page as well.

Assignment #4: Chapters 1-6
  • Put a new line between assignments #3 and #4.
  • Put your answer ABOVE the previous assignment.
  • Copy this assignment to your page.
  • Add the date above this assignment.
  • Start a plot line. Identify the setting first.
  • Add two or three key events from each chapter to reflect the rising action.
  • Identify each chapter and put the two or three events as bullet points under the chapter number.
  • For example:
Setting
Time and Place
Chapter 1
Two or three bulleted phrases explaining your events.

Chapter 2
Two or three bulleted phrases explaining your events.

  • The setting of this book is on Indian Island, Devon in 20th centry.
Two or three key events:
  • In chapter one there wasn't many key events, but some would be the letters being sent out to all the guests, and the descriptions of the guests.
  • In chapter two one key event was the delay of the Owens. Another would be the poem on the mantle in each room about the ten little Indians. Another key event would be Emily Brent reading the bible verse about evil before dinner.
  • In chapter three one key event would be The death of Anthony Martson. Another would be when they found out that Mr. Rodgers had played the record telling about all the guests pasts. Another would be when they found out that Mr. Davis was an undercover spy, and that his real name was Mr. Blore.
  • In chapter four a key event would be when they foud out that they had been set up by possibly a mad man. Another would be the death of Anthony Martson.
  • In chapter five a key event would be when Vera Claythorne noticed how the poem related to the death of Anthony Martson.
  • In chapter six one key event would be the death of Mrs. Rodgers. Another would be that the motor boat was two hours late. One final key to this chapter would be how Mr. Rodgers told Lombard that the little Indian figures on the table disapeared every time someone died.
  • In chapter seven there were some key events. One of them was when Dr. Armstrong and Mr Lombard were talking about the china figures and the poem. Another is when they went to go look for Mr. Owen arround the island but couldn't find him.
  • In chapter eight a key event was when Lombard said that he had a revolver on him. Another is when General Macarther said that he was not scared about dieing because he wanted to.
  • In chapter nine a key event was the death of General Macathur. Another was when the judge said that one of them was Mr. Owen which scared all of them.
  • In chapter ten one key event was when Emily Brent wrote in her diary that the murder was Beatrice Taylor.
  • In chapter eleven one key event was Emily rent waking up very early and walking around outside. Another was the death of Mr. Rodgers.
  • In chapter twelve one key event was the death of Emily Brent. Another was when they found out that she had been poisoned. Another key event was when they found out that someone had stolen Mr. Lombards pistol.
  • In chapter thirteen one key event was the seaweed hanging from the ceiling. Another was the death of Mr. Justice Wargrave.
  • In chapter fourteen one key event was the pistol showing up again in Mr. Lombards dwore over nite. Another was the disaperance of Mr. Armstrong.
  • In chapter fifteen one key event was when doctor Armstrong went missing.
  • In chapter sixteen one key event would be when they found Armstrong drowned by the sea. Another key event was how the light stand fell on Blore from Vera's room. Another key event was when vera shot and killed Mr. Lombard. Finally the last key event was when vera was in a trans and hung herself.
  • In the Epilogue one key event was when Maine noticed that the chair that was kicked over was neatly put back the way it was. Another was the descriptions in the journals some of the guests kept.
  • In the Manuscript the real killer was Wargrave aand his assistant was Dr. Armstrong.
Take out 'in chapter one, in chapter two', etc. Again, read the directions carefully and look at the example that I provided in the prompt. You should have two or three bullets for each chapter. You have good ideas in your events, but not the right format. Also, check for spelling, grammatical errors, etc.

*One more thing - one of your links from this page should be to the 'AND THEN THERE WERE NONE' page, not the 'here' page. Most everyone has done that incorrectly. Please correct.

Assignment #3
Choose 5 characters. Write 2 sentences telling what you know about him or her.

The five characters that I will describe are
Emily Hawthorn, Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Justice Wargrave, Mr. Blore, and And Mr. Owen. First I will describe Emily Hawthorn. Emily Hawthorn is poor and wants a job. She has been acused of something but was found not guilty. Now I will describe Mr. Armstrong. Dr. Armstrong is a very rich man who gave away false diagnosis to patients for money. He was also attractive. Now I will describe Mr. Justice Wargrave. Mr. Justice Wargrave Is a retired judge, and he is kind of one of the leaders in the third chapter. Now I will describe Mr. Blore. Mr. Blore's real name is Mr. Davis but he is under the name Blore because he is a secret agent under cover to spy on the people attending Indian Island. Finally I will describe Mr. Owen. Although nobody knows who Mr. Owen really is what we do know is that he bought Indian Island, invited the people to come to his island, and according to the people in the house he is a mad man.
Anthony-
Now put those ideas into two sentences taking out the 'now I will describe' phrase. This makes your writing monotonous. Read the directions carefully and follow them carefully as well.

Assignment #2 (to be done in class on Wednesday, December 2)

  • Put a line between Assignment #1 and Assignment #2.
  • Read chapter two.
  • On your student page ABOVE assignment #1, choose one of the following: suspense or foreshadowing.
  • Find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two.
  • Write the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
  • In a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing.

One example of foreshadowing in chapter 2 the poem "10 Little Indian Boys" above the mantle in every room. The poem describes how there were 10 Indians and they all got hurt killed or disapeared. Another section in this book that I thought was foreshadowing was the bible verse at the end of the chapter. The verse says "the heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken. The Lord is known by the judgement which he executeth: The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. The wicked shall be turned into hell." I think that this is foreshadowing because something could happen to them because they don't know where the host is and he could be setting traps for them. The third one was when every one was wondering where the Owens where and why there are late. I think that this is foreshadowing because they could be one of the "indians" to be captured first. The final one was when Vera saw Mrs. Rodgers. I think that this is foreshadowing because vera describes her as frightened of her own shadow and that she walked like she was in mortal fear.

Anthony-
Some great quotes; they all show foreshadowing. Now, just as before, you have to clean up your writing. There are lots of run-ons, spelling errors, etc. that make your writing less professional. Since anyone in class can read this, you want it to be error-free. Reread your post and see if you can find those errors.

  • how does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?

A mystery novel differs from a narrative novel by the difference in the plot line. A mystery would have more suspense and more actions than in a narrative. Another difference is that a narrative is told by the main character and the mystery novel bounces back and forth between characters.

  • how might the title be a clue to the story?

I think that the title is a clue to the story by the name "And Then There Were None". This is a clue to me because i think that there will be a group is animals people or something else and then they will all mysteriously vanish.

Anthony-
Some good observations.
Check your spelling (fourth), and sentence structure, especially in your second answer. Right now, it's a run-on.
